KURDISH CHURCH - DERA KURDI
Creating a fruitful community for Kurdish Refugees in Lebanon
KURDISH CHURCH, DERA KURDI, 2013:
Horizons planted an exciting church, largely comprised of Kurdish Syrians. The church is making an impact through its popular Kurdish-language social media ministry, reaching hundreds of thousands globally. Approximately 200 families attend weekly services in Beirut. The ministry team also conducts home groups and evangelistic house visits with families in various Lebanese regions, such as twice-weekly services in Tyre and once a week in Zahle.
Projected Ministry Budget 2024: $118,300
Current and Expected Funding: $56,800
Remaining Ministry Budget Need: $61,500
Our ministry is actively growing, with nine dynamic groups meeting regularly. These gatherings include weekly house meetings and a supportive WhatsApp group. We began our journey with the Gospel of Luke, where participants read six verses and engaged in deep discussions. This approach helps each member form a strong community of believers and learn to integrate the word of God into their daily lives.
We also host a monthly conference called "Meeting with Jesus," designed specifically for new believers. These 2-day events are held separately for men and women, covering profound discipleship topics such as the Holy Spirit, the Gospel, the Cross, and the foundations of faith. Each conference aims to deepen understanding and commitment, and attendees can join small groups for further spiritual growth. We offer 18 classes on subjects like spiritual warfare and baptism to help participants make informed decisions about their faith journey. This month, we are blessed to report that 55 women and 50 men have come to Christ through these efforts.
In the south of Lebanon, we have successfully planted a church that serves 40–45 families. Our weekly ministry and follow-up visits ensure that each family receives consistent support and spiritual nourishment. We are also praying for the opportunity to offer discipleship courses alongside our regular meetings that include worship, praise, preaching, and fellowship.
In Zahle, our dedicated staff makes weekly visits to 19–20 families, primarily from Muslim backgrounds and predominantly Kurds. We are committed to supporting these families and are actively praying for a suitable location to plant a church in the area.
Our mission is to spread the love of Christ and build resilient communities of faith across Lebanon. We are grateful for the continued support and prayers that make this work possible.
