Communications and Publication Assistant

We are seeking an assistant to work with the Horizons communications team in producing and distributing content for e-books, newsletters, blogs, websites, email campaigns, and social media. Additional responsibilities may arise within communications strategy, partner engagement, media development, and publication processes for books and minibooks.  The proportion of these roles could change at various times due to the needs of the departments.

COMMUNICATIONS RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Write engaging marketing copy for a variety of print and digital materials, including brochures, newsletters, direct mailings, websites, blogs, and social media. 

  • Edit materials to professional standard alongside marketing team.

  • Solicit, gather, and organize information from global staff members for inclusion in marketing deliverables.

  • Assist in designing and implementing efficient cross-channel marketing campaigns and content management system.

PUBLICATION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create and maintain production schedules for book projects.

  • Coordinate efforts of writers and editors to optimize content production.

  • Help define the structure of books; collate previously written materials into book format.

  • Edit and proofread rough book copy within multi-stage process to ensure professional quality for publishing.

  • Assist in developing curriculum for various training programs.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Have a personal understanding of the values and beliefs of Christianity, and a basic understanding of cross-cultural missions work.

  • Thorough understanding of English grammar, syntax, voice, and style—candidates without writing samples will not be considered.

  • Editorial eye for detail and voice. Ability to rearrange content ideas to create logical flow and compelling storyline.

  • Ability to work proactively and effectively in team settings, driving projects and gathering content.

  • Consistently meet deadlines on simultaneous writing and editing projects.

Preferred:

  • Awareness of SEO and content marketing conventions.

  • B.A. in Creative Writing, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or Publishing.
